There are four basic components of the program:

  1. Personal Development Curriculum -- Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Project Manuals and a Leader Guide
  2. Heritage Scrapbook Project
  3. Scrapbooking Project
  4. Take a Stand!

 

Resources and Evaluation

A Marketing Brochure has been created to use in promoting the program for School Enrichment. Be sure to customize the center panel of page 1 with the county's contact information before printing.

 

Personal Development Curriculum

Picture Perfect YOUth, is a reminder young people are the focus of the Personal Development project. Each child has different characteristics that make their picture perfect for them. The goal of this curriculum is to help youth discover things about themselves, stretch their boundaries to try new things and provide support and encouragement to help them be successful.

 

Objects of the project:

  • Develop communication skills through sharing ideas, thoughts and feelings.
  • Build strong and healthy relationships with others based on cooperation, empathy, trust and respect.
  • Understand and utilize the tools and resources for dealing constructively with problems and conflicts that occur among people.
  • Develop skills in managing time and seeking out useful resources to complete tasks.
  • Develop good character, leadership and citizenship traits.
  • Apply knowledge acquired in this project to other projects and related community activities.

 

How do I get started? The curriculum is designed with manuals that instructors and youth will use. The project will work best by teaching a group of members of the same age using the appropriate level manual. This allows for youth to complete age appropriate activities with youth their same age. The project can be completed with a project group, added to any other project as supplemental activities, or completed as an individual study project.

 

Can I enter projects in the Fair? YES! Fair projects have been incorporated into each project manual. There are four fair projects for each age level. Fair projects include posters, displays, and kits. These classes are all NEW so be sure to refer to the Fair Materials for the updated instructions. Classes are listed in the Personal Development category.

Heritage Scrapbook Project

What is our heritage? Heritage is something that belongs to us by reason of birth. It is the history of a family. Where the family came from and all of the traditions, customs and more that have been passed down from generation to generation make up a family’s heritage.

 

It is important for youth to learn about their family and gain an greater appreciation for their family heritage. The Heritage Scrapbook Project will take some time to research and develop. You will build and grow your project as you grow.  As you work through this project, take your time and explore the many facets of your family.

 

The Heritage Scrapbook manual provides activities for each age group. There are required and optional activities to include in the scrapbook. Page 4 of the  manual provides more information on putting together a Heritage Scrapbook.  Page 5 outlines the required and optional activities for each age division.  The age divisions include:

  • Beginner -- Ages 9-11
  • Intermediate -- Ages 12-14
  • Advanced -- Ages 15-19

How do I get started? The Heritage Scrapbook project can be taught by a leader or teen leader to a group of 4-H members or as an individual study project. Consider recruiting a leader who enjoys genealogy. Lessons are easy to follow.  Print off the manual and get started with your project today!

 

Can I enter my Heritage Scrapbook in the Fair? YES! There is a class in the Fair for each level of the Heritage Scrapbook.  The classes are included in the Personal Development category.

 

Scrapbooking Project

Scrapbooking is a method of preserving memories that uses photographs, journaling, memorabilia and embellishments to create a layout that can be added to an album. An album can be a method of preserving the past to share with future generations.

 

Scrapbooking is just one way to keep records.  It also allows youth to save memories in a organized and creative way.  The Scrapbooking Project manual provides six lessons to teach youth the basics.

 

How do I get started? The Scrapbooking project can be taught by a leader or teen leader to a group of of scrapbooking.  Hands on activities are included to encourage youth to practice scrapbooking techniques before tackling a scrapbook project.

 

4-H members or an individual study project. Consider recruiting a leader who does scrapbooking or partnering with a local scrapbooking or craft store to hold classes there. Print off the manual and get started with your project today!

 

Can I enter my Heritage Scrapbook in the Fair? YES! There is a class in the Fair for each  age level (see below).  Each level is required to include a specific number of pages in the scrapbooking entry. The classes are included in the Personal Development category.

  • Beginner (9-11 years old) -- 4-6 pages
  • Intermediate (12-14 years old) -- 8-10 pages
  • Advanced (15-19 years old) -- 12-16 pages

Additional Resources for Scrapbooking Project

  • Tools of the Trade Bingo Cards -- set of 30 cards with the master card. Each card is different and was made using the Free Bingo Cards website. Feel free to create your own cards at the website.
  • Tools of the Trade Bingo Card -- this version allows youth to use the words at the bottom of the card to create their own Bingo Card. This activity is good to use as youth are arriving and waiting to start the meeting. Page 2 is all the terms to use to draw as the game is played.
  • Tools of the Trade Bingo PPT -- if you don't have the scrapbooking tools to show as you play the Bingo Game, use this PPT as a visual. Pictures of each item is included with a description. Slides have been randomized but you can re-arrange them to mix up the order after each game.

 

Take a Stand

The Take a Stand! Program is a school enrichment program that focuses on conflict resolution and bully prevention.  This curriculum focuses on life skills development to give youth strategies to identify and stop bullying around them. 

The program is divided into 4 different age groups (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12) with hands on activities in each of the 5 lessons.

Lesson 4: Teamwork

Lesson 5: Cultural Awareness 

 

The Take A Stand! Curriculum was developed by Texas AgriLife Extension Service in partnership with the Texas Rural Mediation Services.  We are excited to be given permission from Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas 4-H Program to adapt their curriculum for Oklahoma.  Both of these agencies are given credit in the curriculum.
