Teen Action and Growth
This material was developed to serve as a guide in helping Extension educators to implement a formalized training program for 4-H teen leaders. The curriculum is intended to provide the fundamental knowledge and skills teens need to be effectively utilized at the local and county levels.
A leadership development course of this type can serve as a foundation for those counties desiring an organized Teen Leader club. A 4-H Teen Leader club can be effective in recruiting, training and retaining teens. A teen leaders project club should not take the place of a local club or distract from leadership opportunities at the local level. It should enhance and expand local programming efforts.
Teens who understand their role perform more effectively and can carry out their responsibilities in a more efficient manner. Teens need assistance in acquiring the knowledge and developing the skills that will help them carry out their jobs successfully at the local, county, district and state levels.
This material is designed to help young people understand the role of a leader, instill a sense of responsibility and develop life skills through participation in leadership developing activities. Participants must be committed and involved in the learning experience so they have an opportunity to apply their leadership knowledge and skills through this formal training process.
