Natural Resources Contest at State 4-H Roundup

The 2026 4-H Roundup Natural Resource Contest will focus on Oklahoma Mammals using the resources indicated below. Contestants will have the opportunity to explore this project area while preparing for the 4-H Natural Resource Contest.

Contestants will compete as individuals. Members will answer questions that include a combination of the following: Identification, True/False, Matching, Fill-in-the-Blank and Multiple Choice. Physical examples, pictures, diagrams or any other material(s) used for this contest may not be those specifically pictured within the contest resources.

Contest Resources

Contest questions will be drawn from the following resources.

  • 4-H Wildlife Science (Levels 1 - 2 - 3): These are available for purchase from shop4-h.org. Only chapters 1 and 2 from the Level 1 & 2 manuals need to be studied for this contest. NOTE: Before purchasing, please check with your county educator, as they may already have access to these materials.
  • Oklahoma Field Guide: This website, produced by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, is available using the following link Oklahoma Field Guide. Using the CATEGORY dropdown menu, scroll down to mammals and select APPLY. Information for each species, accessed by clicking the image or common name, is potential contest material.
  • Additional information related to bats included in the Oklahoma Field Guide can be accessed at Bats of Oklahoma Field Guide. NOTE: Only the bat species included in the Oklahoma Field Guide mammal drop-down menu will be included in this contest.
